Promoting the Employment of People with Disabilities on a Global Basis
Omron’s corporate philosophy emphasizes respect for diversity, and one aspect of this tenet is to increase the number of employment opportunities for people with disabilities. We continue to rank at the top of the manufacturing industry for our employment of people
with disabilities, which as of June 2011 amounted to 2.24% of our workforce in Japan, including 24 Group companies. In Indonesia, meanwhile, although the law stipulates that people with disabilities must account for at least 1% of the workforce, few companies comply.

However, in 2010, PT OMRON Manufacturing of INDONESIA (OMI) created and is implementing a program to provide training and employment as a package to people with disabilities. This program has proved successful. OMI has raised its percentage of people with disabilities to 2% of its workforce, and word of the program has spread to other companies in Indonesia.
Five companies have now introduced a similar type of program to OMI. These efforts have earned OMI the Best Practice Award for employing people with disabilities from the International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as kudos from the Indonesian government.
